Gratitude and Request
My name is Angela and I am writing to
share with you how a Central Oregon Community College Foundation scholarship is
changing my life. I truly hope my story inspires you to renew your scholarship
support or to give a gift for the first time.
Throughout my life, I have overcome
many adversities. I am a Native American mother who is in the process of
becoming the first person in my family to receive a college degree. I have
watched family members and friends struggle through addiction and mental
illness and because of my compassion and empathy for all who struggle with
these issues, I decided to return to school and obtain knowledge and skills to
I have just begun my second year in the
Human Services and Addiction Studies Program and I believe with motivation,
dedication and the exceptional education offered at COCC, I will make a
difference in our community. I am active outside the classroom as a volunteer
with Bethlehem Inn, as Treasurer of the Human Services Addiction Studies Club
at COCC, in the Native American Club at COCC, by attending Addiction Counselor
Certification Board of Oregon training, and am currently working as an intern
with Deschutes County Behavioral Health.
the COCC Foundation Scholarship has lifted my financial burden and is making it
possible for me focus on my education.
I am deeply appreciative of the donors
who give generously to scholarships at COCC which support hundreds of students
like me pursuing higher education—we literally could not do it without you!
I will receive an Associate of Arts
Oregon Transfer degree from COCC this spring and will then go on to receive my
bachelor’s and graduate degrees to become a Licensed Professional Counselor. I
am constantly thinking of how I can do better to accomplish my goals and the
biggest obstacle is financial.
I am asking you to consider making a gift to the COCC Foundation scholarship
program. You will be supporting students just like me, working hard to realize
our dreams. All amounts, from $25, $100, $500 or even $3,600, which funds a
full scholarship, make a difference.
Thank you for the gift of education,
